Whittier Choir Prepares for Concert at Navy Pier
Good news about the Whittier Choir, which meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. in the gym, under the direction of Andy Morgan, of the Chicago Children’s Choir. Many children come early to sing in Latin, English, Spanish and other languages, learning songs of other cultures. Attendance has varied from 33 to 49! Choir mothers have helped with attendance and checking sizes for the choir shirts. Teachers can encourage our young singers to come on time, and to sing familiar songs during the week, as this helps them develop their aural memory. (I’ll work to get some CD support for that. Also, fundraising news.) Their first performance is on Friday, February 18, at the Navy PIer in Downtown Chicago, celebrating Black History Month, singing many civil rights songs with other choirs and performing also as a single choir. Parents and the community are invited to that event. Congratulations go to the children of the choir, to their teachers and parents who support their early morning singing.
