Whittier Students Art Exhibited at World Art Chicago Exhibition

I am pleased to announce that four of our students’ work has been accepted into the World Art Chicago art exhibition.  The World Art Chicago Exhibition is up now at the Gary Comer Youth Center located at 7200 South Ingleside (off South Chicago Blvd.).  The exhibit will run through Sunday, May 17th in their main hallway on the first floor of the center.   The reception for the World Art Chicago Exhibition is on Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

World Art Chicago is a presentation of artwork from elementary school children (grades 5-8) from around the world.   The work is themed around the six Olympic values of Hope, Respect, Harmony Friendship, Excellence and Celebration.   This exhibition is being presented as part of Olympic Week Chicago.

Our students created oil pastel drawings of their “everyday heroes.”  They captured the images of people in their lives who inspire them, teach them, and encourage them to accomplish their goals.    In designing this lesson, I wanted the students to make connections on a personal level to the six values of the Olympics.
