This March, a former Whittier student returned to speak with current students about his journey to college. Alberto Velázquez is currently attending Brown University in Rhode Island with a very generous scholarship. Brown University is a highly selective Ivy League school. Back at Whittier, Alberto spoke with a group of 8th graders and with a group of primary grade students.
Alberto shared about the importance of getting good grades as well as pursuing your interests and passions. When asked if he has a personal philosophy, he responded “If there is a will, there’s a way.” He explained that if you want something bad enough, you just have to work hard and then you can achieve it.
When asked about his memories of Whittier School, Alberto said that he remembers the teachers and how they really cared. He said that he attended 2 other schools after Whittier and he didn’t find teachers who were so interested in and concerned for their students anywhere else. Alberto’s 1st-3rd grade teachers are still at Whittier and he delighted them with his visit!
Thank you Alberto for the high compliment for Whittier and especially for sharing with current Whittier students! You are an example of “Where there is a will there’s a way!”
