Whittier Geography Club

[metaslider id=11112]

Our middle school SPED teacher, Dr. Martin Vavrincik, who has a doctorate in Geographic Science from Slovakia, leads our after school program so our students literally expand their horizons.  This is an example of the quality after school programs offered at Whittier Dual Language School!

Geography Club (2 days/week; 1 hr./day)

Sponsor: Dr. Martin Vavrincik

DESCRIPTION: The main goal of Geography Club is to spark an interest for geography in hearts and minds of our students. The members of the club believe that exploring the Earth as a whole make us to be empathetic to our planet and human society. Students will work on various projects of their choice using ArcGIS. ArcGIS online is a complete, cloud-based mapping platform.

OUTCOMES: 7th and 8th grade students will learn to exercise sound reasoning in understanding the interconnections among geographical systems. They will learn to make complex choices and decisions by identifying and asking significant questions that clarify various points of view and lead to better solutions. Students will be able to frame, analyze and synthesize information in order to solve problems and answer questions.

CULMINATING EVENT: At the end of the school year, students will present their projects created in ArcGIS to their parents and faculty.
